Some of the words and phrases used on this site may be foreign to you, so we have made a small dictionary for your convenience.
Air pressure at sea level.
Any air pressure below atmospheric pressure, often described in percentages of total vacuum. Our CVS™ systems typically operate between 35% and 50% vacuum.
Constant Vacuum System - a vacuum system where vacuum is maintained in the piping at all times. Used in large systems with more than 4 toilets and/or long pipes.
Vacuum On Demand - a vacuum system where the system's pump generates vacuum in the piping only when a toilet is flushed or a greywater tank is discharged. Used in small systems with 4 toilets or less.
Industry name for outlet water from sinks, showers, washing machines and other household sources. The name is used to distinguish it from blackwater.
Industry name for sewage, normally from toilets and urinals. The name is used to distinguish it from greywater.
Equipment which generates and maintains vacuum. A widely used vacuum generator is the Vacuumarator™ pump made by Jets™.
A vacuum generator developed by Jets™ which generates vacuum, macerates sewage and transports that sewage in a single-pass operation. The Vacuumarator™ pump is a purpose-built design based on the Helivac™ pump principle.
A unit consisting of one or more vacuum generating pumps, with control equipment.
A complete system consisting of a vacuum unit, vacuum toilets and in some cases also interface units for grey water and urinals.
CFD valve (for VOD™)
Central Flush and Discharge valve for toilets in VOD™ systems. An electronically controlled mechanism for operation of Jets™ vacuum toilets connected to mains (central) water.
LFD valve (for VOD™)
Local Flush and Discharge valve for toilets in VOD™ systems. An electronically controlled mechanism for operation of Jets™ vacuum toilets connected to a a water tank or other (local) source of water.
CD valve (for VOD™)
Central Discharge valve for greywater tanks used in VOD™ systems. An electronically controlled mechanism operating the discharge of contents from Jets™ grey water interface units and urinal interface tanks. Valve operation is centralized in a separate VTS control unit.
EFD valve (for CVS™)
Electronic Flush and Discharge valve for toilets in CVS™ systems. An electronically controlled mechanism operating the flushing and discharge of Jets™ vacuum toilets.
FD valve (for CVS™)
Flush and Discharge valve for toilets in CVS™ systems. A vacuum controlled mechanism used with a VPC controller for operation of Jets™ vacuum toilets.
VPC controller (for CVS™)
Vacuum Powered Cam controller. Mechanism for pneumatic (pressure) operation of Jets™ FD valves in CVS™ systems.
VPC-V controller (for CVS™)
Vacuum Powered Cam controller - Vacuum operation. Mechanism for vacuum operation of Jets™ FD valves in CVS™ systems.
ED valve (for CVS™)
Electronic Discharge valve for greywater tanks used in CVS™ systems. An electronically controlled mechanism operating the discharge of contents from Jets™ grey water interface units and urinal interface tanks. Each valve has an electronic control circuit that controls the discharging.
Greywater interface unit
Also known as a greywater interface tank. A tank used to interface greywater outlets from showers, wash basins etc. with a vacuum system. Fitted with a CD or ED valve and level sensor for valve activation and discharge. Normal sizes are 8, 12 and 16 litres.
Interceptor tanks are essentially small greywater tanks where the discharge valve is installed separate from the tank. This allows the interceptor to be installed in confined spaces, such as inside supermarket freezers.
Tank for collecting blackwater, and sometimes greywater, from a vacuum system.
Tank for holding (storing) blackwater, and sometimes greywater, from a vacuum system.
Device installed to prevent back flow (siphoning effect) of contaminated water from a toilet into the fresh water supply system.
Sewage treatment plant - STP
Plant for treatment of blackwater, and sometimes also greywater, before its overboard discharge (from ships) or release back into the ecosystem (on land).
