Jets™ breakthrough in Japan

When Japan's major shipbuilder Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI) decided to standardize on vacuum toilet systems for its newbuildings, it investigated alternative suppliers...

First MHI order

In 2002, the purchasing department at MHI's head office in Tokyo asked Jets™ to present its solutions at each of MHI's three yards. Represented by its agent in Kobe, Novenco Nippon Ltd., Jets™ received the first order from MHI: toilet systems for a dredger for the Suez Canal Agency in Egypt, built at the Kobe yard. This was an important achievement for Jets™.

MOL chose Jets™ for its new projects

Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) operates a fleet that includes container ships, specialized carriers and one of the world's largest tanker fleets. MOL chose Jets™ toilet systems for its new VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) built in Nagasaki, and for its new PCTC (Pure Car Truck Carrier) built in Kobe. The VLCC vessel of 300,000 TDW was fitted with a Jets™ 30MB-D vacuum unit and 33 toilets.

MHI shipyards

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has three yards in Japan: Nagasaki, Shimonoseki and Kobe.

  • Nagasaki is the flagship yard, building large vessels including naval and cruise ships
  • Shimonoseki builds medium-sized vessels such as bulkers, passenger ships and ferries
  • Kobe builds container vessels and submarines
